Bellaire Police and Fire Foundation Grants

Now the City has 3 drones. That money could have gone towards an extra patrol officer to patrol the streets.

The Foundation has considered the grant applications recently submitted by the Police and Fire
Departments and as approved by the City Council. The Foundation approved the following:

• Body Cameras with 5 years of cloud storage $34,048 (Fire Department)
• Dry Suits $13,865 (Fire Department)
• Unmanned Aerial Vehicle $41,718 (Police Department)
• High Water Vehicle $25,500 (Police Department)
• Radar Trailer $8,795 (Police Department)

The Foundation decided to not approve:
• The cancer initiative (Fire Department)
• Weather station (Fire Department)
• The restraint “wraps” (Police Department)

The Foundation determined that the unapproved items are operational in nature and are better suited as
city-funded projects. Chief Holloway, Chief Tittel, and I greatly appreciate the Foundation’s thoughtful
consideration of all of our submittals.
