More missing Kevin Newman for City Council signs

Just got a call that the signs I had up in a yard are missing.  Who steals yard signs?  I heard this happened in 2013 to one candidate. Ha, I guess there is crime in Bellaire

If you want a sign for your yard I will be more then happy to deliver one to you.

If you need a sign so you can advertise your garage sale I can tell you were to go get a blank one.

Another Serious Wreck at Bellaire and S. Rice

I just posted about the tree canopy that needs to be cut back before someone dies. On Wednesday there was another wreck at the same intersection.  Car was T-boned and you can see the damage in the pictures.  Wonder when some department will do something about this. I know for sure I will when I am Elected to Bellaire City Council.

Can someone finally trim these trees?

If you have lived in Bellaire long, then you remember when the City had silver street light poles.  The standard looking ones you see everywhere in Houston.  A while back the City changed to the new black poles and ever since the lights, that used to be monitored by sensors in the ground to change the lights, were replaced to a new mounted camera system traffic flow device.  Since I do drive at all hours of the night I can tell you this new system is a joke and even at 3AM you will still sit at an empty intersection for a long time waiting for the light to change.  Before, when you approached the light, the sensor would change the light within seconds.

Please look closely at the pictures below and read each caption as it tell the story of what happens at least once a week if not more, EVERY week of the year.  This is the intersection of S. Rice and Bellaire.  I took these pictures on the way to the Special Session meeting on Monday at 5:30PM.   There is a wreck there on average at least once a week and almost all of them involve a car being t-boned and/or causing it to roll over.

One week, a while back there was a wreck there almost everyday and I am guessing they adjusted the lights somehow because that stopped and went back down to once a week.  Why hasnt anyone fix this?  Did the Police try to figure out why a wreck happens in the same place every week? If they did, then why was nothing done?  IF they didnt, what kind of Police do we really have? Did Public Works see that the tree canopy is so thick and needs to be trimmed?  If they did, then why was nothing done?  If they didnt, do need we to retrain them to look for tree limb overgrowth?

The real issue to me is that NOTHING was done by anyone.  To me this fits the same pattern for most things that are so easy to fix in Bellaire.  We definitely need better oversight and communication.  We need to fix this before someone actually dies.

Did you know this? Police Crime Alert issued

So, unless you found the link on the very bottom of the City’s website and clicked subscribe to the police email alerts, you would never have heard about this.

This is called breadcrumb navigation. It shows the steps, the clicks it takes, to get to the end. This is the steps needed to find this on the City’s website.

Over 65 Tax Relief

Everyday, as I walk door to door, I learn more and more issues affecting the residents of Bellaire.  One issue that I have heard is about property taxes and at the last council meeting Lynn McBee spoke about how difficult it was on a fixed income having to worry about paying these higher property taxes.  I had one resident tell me that she now pays more in property taxes then she did for her house when she originally bought it, including principal and interest.  That is when it really hit me.  I also had another resident tell me that as soon as she retires they are moving to the Hill Country because they wont be able to afford the taxes.  I feel that the City of Bellaire really needs to investigate this and find ways to help those over 65 that deserve a tax freeze or higher exemptions.
