Recycling / Solid Waste / Debris Management Update

Recycling / Solid Waste

Recycling Services are scheduled to resume on Wednesday September 20. Areas A,C,D will be serviced on that day. The remaining areas, B and E will be serviced on their normal recycling days. Solid waste services will continue as normally scheduled. Please continue to separate your solid waste and recycling from any storm related debris. This will facilitate efficient collection of each.

Debris Management:

Debris removal continues in the southeast portion of Bellaire as the City contractor progresses through some of our hardest hit areas. The work is primarily occurring in the Southdale area. The contractor has committed to complete an initial cleanup of every property in the City by September 28, or roughly two weeks from today. Thereafter, residents can expect two more debris pick up opportunities. The contractor has located a second debris site so that more equipment can be added to the cleanup- efforts.

Below is additional information about the debris operation.

  • The work will occur between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, seven days per week until complete.
  • It is expected that the clean up will last approximately 6 weeks from now
  • Residents should separate regular solid waste from the storm related debris to facilitate collection of each
  • Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) like paint, fuel, chemicals, etc. will be picked up but not with the first pass
  • Appliances will be picked up in subsequent passes as well
  • The contractor is working to limit damage to yards
  • Yards damaged by debris removal equipment will be graded at the end of the debris removal operation
  • As soon as we are able to provide more specific information about the timing and location of debris removal services, we will do so

The City continues to explore options to expedite debris collection. We are pursuing every local, state, federal resource for assistance. Again, once the second debris site is open, the contractor has committed to providing additional equipment.
